The Association for the Chronically Mentally Ill (ACMI) is proud to honor an outstanding behavioral health leader at our annual year-end celebration. This recognition is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional innovation, leadership, and dedication in serving those with the most serious mental illnesses. Their work reflects a deep commitment to improving lives, advancing care, and creating lasting change for one of our community’s most vulnerable populations.

Dr. Carol Olson, MD, DFAPA is the Chief Medical Officer of Valleywise Behavioral Health System, Chair of Psychiatry at Valleywise Health (District Medical Group), and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Phoenix. Board-certified in both general and forensic psychiatry, she has devoted her career to caring for individuals with serious mental illness, with a special focus on the intersection of mental health and the criminal justice system.
