On the first Tuesday of each month, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. Arizona time (except on holiday weekends), ACMI hosts a featured guest for a timely conversation on behavioral health. Following the presentation, attendees will discuss current issues in the behavioral health system. We are pleased to have Dr. Carol Olson discussing the guardianship initiation process at Valleywise.
Our speaker, Dr. Olson is Chair of the Psychiatry Departments of Valleywise Health System and the Creighton School of Medicine, Phoenix campus. She is a Phoenix native and a graduate of Stanford University School of Medicine; she completed her residency training in Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego, and Maricopa Medical Center, and is board-certified in Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry. She has spent her career within the Psychiatry Department of Valleywise (formerly Maricopa Integrated Health System), which performs all Title 36 court-ordered psychiatric evaluations in Maricopa County. She has been Chair of the Valleywise Health Psychiatry Department since 2004, and is responsible for the behavioral health services at three inpatient facilities with a capacity of over 400 beds, a psychiatric consultation service, ECT service, several outpatient clinics, and adult and child & adolescent psychiatry residency training programs. In addition to her work at Valleywise, Dr. Olson was Chair of the Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB) for the state of Arizona for 10 years; the PSRB oversaw individuals found Guilty Except Insane for violent crimes, during their time committed to the Arizona State Hospital and after their conditional release to the community. Dr. Olson is a past president of the Valleywise Health medical staff and past Physician of the Year at Valleywise.   Dr. Olson is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.Â
