On the first Tuesday of each month, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. Arizona time (except on holiday weekends), ACMI hosts a featured guest for a timely conversation on behavioral health. Following the presentation, attendees will discuss current issues in the behavioral health system. We are pleased to have Sheriff David Rhodes discussing Innovative Solutions: Managing SMI/behavioral health in rural Yavapai County.
Our speaker, Sheriff David Rhodes is a nationally respected law enforcement leader and a dedicated advocate for innovative approaches to public safety and behavioral health. A 32-year veteran of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Rhodes began his career as a volunteer in 1994 and steadily rose through the ranks, serving as Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Chief Deputy, and ultimately Sheriff after his election in 2020 and reelection in 2024. A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session #244, he has commanded both the Law Enforcement and Detention Divisions and previously led the Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy, helping shape the next generation of Arizona law enforcement officers.
Recognized for his collaborative leadership style, Sheriff Rhodes has become a statewide voice for criminal justice reform and behavioral health diversion strategies, particularly in rural communities. As Chair of the Yavapai Justice & Mental Health Coalition and former President of the Arizona Sheriff’s Association, he has championed programs focused on crisis response, jail diversion, re-entry services, and reducing recidivism among individuals living with serious mental illness and substance use disorders. Under his leadership, Yavapai County has implemented nationally recognized initiatives that connect vulnerable individuals to treatment and supportive services rather than repeated incarceration, reflecting his belief that public safety and compassionate care must work hand in hand.enix, where her passion for teaching continues to inspire the next generation of clinicians.
Please join me in welcoming a true pioneer in approaches to public safety and behavioral health.
